Thoroughbred® and GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) |
|
Data breaches are becoming more and more common. Developers need to do a better job of safeguarding sensitive data. Encryption will be the cornerstone for this protection. The GDPR's guidance on encryption is clear - encrypt all sensitive data. Your systems cannot be competitive if they are not connected to the Internet. But once your network is connected, even with all the security available today, the question is not will you be compromised, but when. If your data is unreadable, it will greatly reduce your exposure. Beginning in May 2018, the European Union's GDPR will require organizations to better manage and protect sensitive data. Although this is primarily for EU (European Union) organizations, it could also affect any organization in the world (including North America, the UK and Asia) doing business with the EU. Any organization that stores and processes EU data will need to comply with the GDPR. Finding an encryption solution that is easy to implement and carries no performance overhead is crucial. Thoroughbred's upcoming Version 8.8.2 will allow you to create AES 256 bit encrypted data files. This is known as file level encryption for data at rest. If someone were to get a hold of your data, it would be completely useless to them. Once your files are encrypted, there are no changes to your Thoroughbred based applications as encryption is done at file creation. Thoroughbred's International and Domestic customers can take advantage of Thoroughbred 8.8.2 with GDPR. Watch for more news on the availability of Thoroughbred 8.8.2 with GDPR in the coming weeks. |
